External audit non responses
Smaller Authorities Audit Appointments (SAAA) are now receiving management information returns from the audit suppliers – currently, their main concern is the number of authorities they have had no response from, this is higher than in previous years. On 9 May MPs accepted the government's amendment to exempt all parish and town councils and parish meetings from the requirement to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO) under the GDPR. It now enters a ping pong phase with the House of Lords considering amendments made during the House of Commons stages, though we do not expect this amendment to be reversed.

All member councils were sent a copy of the NALC toolkit which contains model policies and templates to use. Data Protection Bill and GDPR
· NALC's concerns over the impact of the Data Protection Bill and GDPR on local councils were picked up in Parliament last week as well as extensively in the media.
