CouncilsCan Day

The Local Government Association (LGA) hosted its second #CouncilsCan Day on 10 November, and it was good to see many local councils getting involved and sharing the fantastic work they've been doing. Just some of the great examples included:

  • Hedge End Town Council: managing litter picker walks, which covers upwards of 13,000 steps each day, no matter the weather volunteers show up and do it with a smile
  • Ingatestone and Fryerning Parish Council: making history by hosting its first online meeting in its 125-year history, which allowed everyone to keep up-to-date with the council's work during the pandemic
  • Leighton-Linslade Town Council: achieving the quality gold accreditation through the Local Council Award Scheme and putting together a five-year plan, which outlines its vision and objectives for the town
  • Shrewsbury Town Council: undertaking essential maintenance of sports facilities during the lockdown so that they would be ready for use once restrictions were lifted
  • Yate Town Council: supporting the community through its COVID-19 Battle Fund with £6,000 distributed to local organisations to help run their projects
