Council meetings – face to face or online

There are no further updates on council meetings, following the information provided in our 15 September newsletter. NALC strongly recommends that councils continue to meet remotely. However, the exemptions to the rule of 6, which only applies socially, mean that councils can meet in person providing that a risk assessment is carried out and attached is the checklist we provided in our July newsletter.

VAT advice

Included in your 2020/21 GAPTC membership fee, we now have access to the Parkinson Partnership so that we can ask for specialist advice on VAT on your behalf to support the generic advice that we can provide. They are also running a series of training courses, Introduction to VAT for Local Councils (see below).

Website healthcheck – GAPTC as your critical friend

From time to time we have been asked to carry out a website healthcheck for parish councils and we are now pleased to announce that we are offering a new service where we can review the council's website, check for compliance and ease of use and provide a written report for council with recommendations. The cost of this service is £45 for councils with a turnover of £25,000 and under and £65 for larger councils. Further information can be provided on request.

Risk Management course run by Came & Co

Risk Management and Risk Assessments are often a challenge for parish and town councils but are an important of the work. Came & Co is running a course on 3 December (bookings online as usual) covering play areas, working with volunteers, errors by councils (using a case study about a burial plot), libel and slander, cyber-crime and exiting Covid 19 lockdown.

Clerks Online Networking

In recent months we have organised a few online networking meetings for larger councils who have experienced particular issues during the pandemic. We have now organised dates for the four areas in Gloucestershire for smaller councils to have an opportunity to network and share information. Please book online in the usual way. There is no charge for member councils.

Autumn training programme update and new courses

Our training programme continues to be delivered online and we have added new dates for the ever-popular Clerks the Knowledge and Being a Better Councillor courses as well as some more specialist ones. We don't have any plans for face-to-face training, but this will be kept under review depending on government guidance.

Full information and pricing can be found in the Training calendar on the website and bookings should be made using the online booking form. If a course doesn't appear in the list below, it is because it is already fully booked.
